BFGoodrich is an American tire manufacturer. Originally a subsidiary of the industrial conglomerate Goodrich Corporation, it was purchased by the French tire manufacturer Michelin in 1990 (along with Uniroyal, then The Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Company). BFGoodrich was the first American tire company to produce radial tires. It produced tires for Winton Motor Carriage Company’s then-new Winton car.
Their tires were used on the first car to cross the United States in 1903. The “Spirit of St. Louis,” Charles Lindbergh’s plane that made the first successful solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic in 1927, was outfitted with BFGoodrich tires.
BFGoodrich has had plenty of time to hone its skills. Founded in 1870, they were the first to manufacture pneumatic rubber tires, tubeless tires, and radial tires, all representing significant advances in tire technology. BFGoodrich has always been known for its technological innovation, so much so that Michelin purchased the company in 1990 to add to its already impressive portfolio.
